Visit by J. Oster, Member of the German Bundestag, to the Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG)
Rivers Rhine, Moselle and Lahn are “on the Radar”
During his visit to the BfG on 22.06.2018, Mr. Oster learned a lot about the current work of the BfG. He was received by the Director General of the BfG, Dr. Birgit Esser, with a team of further experts from the BfG and the ICWRGC. In the course of the event, Dr. Marianela Fader gave a briefing, informing Mr. Oster on the key activities of the ICWRGC.
As a Member of the Bundestag coming from our region (constituency of Koblenz), Mr. Oster showed particular interest in the rivers Rhine, Moselle and Lahn. He asked the BfG experts specific questions on the future of the federal waterway Lahn. Oster was impressed by the EU LIFE project “Living Lahn“ and the federal programme “Blue Belt Germany“ (Blaues Band Deutschland), an exemplary development concept for subsidiary waterways. „Implementing the ecological passability of the Lahn river is a major objective, fish migration must not be restricted“, he said and mentioned the need to install a fish ladder at Lahnstein.
